Clary’s Film Workshop / Part I

I really didn’t think it would take me this long to finally getting around to sharing this awesome experience on the blog, but obviously, it did! Life just got in the way between fall weddings, working on my mastee’s, building a new site & blog, and holidays. But nonetheless, this was an amazing opportunity and experience that I’ve been so excited to share and now finally am!

So last spring I was itching to do some kind of film workshop to really hone in on my skills and learn from others that had been using it, especially with bringing it into the mix when shooting client work and not just personal. (it’s definitely more of a challenge than digital, in my opinion, but well worth it in the end!) From my research, I was unable to find anything like that that wasn’t on the west coast nor really expensive! Well, it just so happened that I saw the incredibly talented Clary Pfeiffer post that she would be teaching her own first film workshop in the summer. And let tell you- I’ve been a huge fan of her gorgeous work for the last few years…so this was pretty much a dream-come-true scenario for me! So of course I immediately responded to grab a seat before they all disappeared!

It just so happened that the workshop fell on the day after we got back from our trip to Mexico. Even though the timing was slightly inconvenient (thought I might be really tired and thought I might be a little anxious thinking about it my last few days of Mexico b/c I’d never done a workshop like this before), I knew without a doubt I just had to go!

But I had no need to worry; honestly I was a little unlike my usual self that day. All I felt was super excited and eager to learn. It’s like someone flipped the switch from ‘be anxious’ to ‘leave your shy-ness in the dust and soak up everything you can from this!’ And I’m so proud to say that’s exactly what I did; seriously that is so unlike me in group settings like this! I asked questions during the discussions and at our meal out together after the session, I struck up conversation with others and was one of the last people to leave that evening.

And to have the opportunity to actually shoot alongside Clary and hear her approach to shooting such a beautifully styled session was awesome! Every single detail was so thought out and absolutely stunning! We shot inside with all the details and some model shots and then moved outside with the models as well. Since I have so many favorites to share, here’s the first half: all the indoor images. Enjoy! 🙂
