The Patch’s are Expecting

patch_mat-28The more sessions I do with this family, the more I fall in love with them.

The hardest thing about this shoot – keeping up with a two yr. old while shooting film (both the running around and her emotional ups and downs).

The best thing about this shoot – well, there’s more than one.
1. Courtney (the pretty mama) embracing and loving the real moments. During one of the meltdowns, she said “it’s totally fine if you keep shooting; I actually like a few crying shots to remember this stage”.  Love. that. Those are exactly the the moms I want to work with; the ones that want real life captured, both the good and the imperfect.
2. My first successful double exposure. I’ve been wanting to experiment more with double exposures, and since Courtney is so artistic in her style of colors and textures, I knew she would appreciate it. I really didn’t expect it to turn out, but the unknown is all part of the fun and I am really pleased with how it came out.
3. Really connecting with my subject. She just couldn’t find anything she wanted to play with in that cutest toy room ever. haha So during that meltdown, the one thing that made her happy was to hold my light meter. Point for me. And then while I was trying to get a great shot of her, she walked right over to me and plopped down in my lap. Didn’t get the shot, but it made me feel like I did something right.blog-1patch_mat-27patch_mat-52patch_mat-24patch_mat-10patch_mat-5patch_mat-6blog-2patch_mat-57blog-3patch_mat-67patch_mat-65patch_mat-72blog-4patch_mat-78patch_mat-127blog-5blog-6patch_mat-117patch_mat-90patch_mat-123patch_mat-93patch_mat-114And a shout out to the wonderful Whisk Bakeshop for letting us shoot in their darling bakery!!
